Embrace fearless ambition, Emir Sanusi tells Wigwe University Students

Wigwe University marked a historic milestone with its inaugural matriculation ceremony, celebrating the legacy of its founder, the late Dr. Herbert Wigwe, and reaffirming its mission to foster transformative leadership in Africa. The event, held at the university’s sprawling Isiokpo campus, welcomed students, faculty, dignitaries, and community leaders to a day steeped in inspiration and hope.

The ceremony opened with a prayer led by Pa Shyngle Wigwe, the founder’s father, who invoked blessings for the students and the institution. His heartfelt appeal set a tone of optimism and determination, emphasizing the founder’s dream of creating an academic institution rooted in excellence and courage.

Professor Marwan Al-Akaidi, Vice Chancellor of Wigwe University, reflected on the journey of transforming a bold vision into reality. “The vision for Wigwe University is not merely about individual success but about shaping a future where Africa’s potential shines,” he remarked, urging students to embody the values of critical thinking, moral courage, and empathy.

Students from four colleges—Arts, Engineering, Management and Social Sciences, and Science and Computing—took their matriculation oath, officially joining the “Community of the Fearless.” The ceremony featured a captivating drama presentation, Dreams Come True, by the Theatre Arts Department. The play highlighted the transformative power of education, showcasing Wigwe University’s commitment to providing students with holistic development.

Inspirational Messages for the Future

The keynote address, delivered by Emir Mohammed Sanusi, encouraged students to embrace “fearless ambition” as they navigate their academic journeys. “Refusal to succumb to fear is the secret to success in life,” he told the matriculants, emphasizing resilience in the face of challenges.

Special Guest of Honour, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, represented by Education Commissioner Dr. Obi Chinedu Chukwuma, pledged the state government’s support and urged students to set high standards and contribute to societal development.

Adding a personal touch, Tochi Wigwe, daughter of the late founder, shared empowering lessons with the students: “The world is waiting for you to show up and show out.” Her words captured

the essence of the institution’s mantra—“We the fearless.”

The Anthem of Fearlessness

A standout moment was the singing of the university’s anthem, composed by Mr. Olusola Faleye, Dr. Wigwe’s Personal Assistant. Its lyrics embody the spirit of unity and relentless pursuit that Wigwe University represents.

A Bright Future Beckons

The matriculation ended with a procession led by the Vice Chancellor and academic officials, symbolizing the beginning of a transformative journey for the students. Among the distinguished guests were His Royal Majesty King Blessing Wagor, Nyewe-Ali Isiokpo, community leaders, and representatives from the Ministry of Education.
